Though this millennial release made no intentional reference to the millennium, it is certainly worth celebrating. Total Devotion incorporates a variety of style and sound without losing it's goth/rock-like characteristics. With a refreshing blend of natural instruments, thousand year empire comes alive with unexpected turns and twists. What begins as techno or heavy dance turns into grunge-like, almost pop tunes with an edge somewhat reminiscent of where the grasses grow. The piano ballad "Visions of Blue," contains a grand piano performance by Rimas from a local recording studio, while acoustic guitar and bass arrangements are added in other tracks by Miles Gannet and John Davidson. Evidence that Rimas is more open to more natural elements without deviating too far from the usual sound. |
